Pictures speak as UNIMED, ondo held Physoc (UK) -sponsored outreach

"knowledge is power," they say and the knowledge that drives medicine is Physiology. it was another life-touching and impact-making moment on Friday, June 10th, 2022 as the Department of Physiology, University of Medical Sciences, Ondo conducted outreach to selected secondary schools in ondo city, under the sponsorship of the Physiological Society, United Kingdom through a grant awarded to Dr. Victor Emojwve who is also the sub-dean of the Faculty of the Basic Medical Sciences of the institution. The grant was won under the institution engagement award scheme of the society.

The students of schools in attendance were that of St. Joseph's College, St.Louis girls college, ALILAK grammar school, Adeyemi demonstration college, Top class college, Ondo boys high school along with the head teachers of science in the schools. Undergraduate students, lecturers, and representatives of the student physiological society of Nigeria (SPAN), Unimed chapter were also present.

The keynote speakers were Dr. Michael Michael Anyakhudo who took a mind-blowing lecture on the career opportunities in the field of Physiology and Prof. Obidike  Naiho Alexander who took an interesting lecture on the theme of the event "Physiology; the bedrock of preventive health care"

The outreach was the first of its kind in the institution. it was aimed at sensitizing the students on the role of physiology in the society and the need for them to develop an interest in the field. After the lectures, the students alongside others were taken on a tour to the physiology laboratories where they were shown the standard equipment present and their uses.

The excitement on the faces of the students triggered mind-blowing questions as many of them considered Physiology as the field to dabble into in the nearest future. In his closing remarks, the head of the Department of Physiology, Pastor (Dr) B.O Omolaso thanked the students and others present for their enthusiasm and said more engaging programs are to come.
